Both Sides of the Border

Chicago Public Radios City Room™ has been closely following the immigration debate, and the effect it carries for Chicago residents. Both Sides of the Border is an archive of Chicago Public Radio's coverage of immigration-related issues.

In a special summer series, Eight Forty-Eight producer Madeleine Bair visits Chicago-area residents who feel that they have a personal stake in the immigration debate. From taxi drivers to bartenders, the “Personal Narratives” provide a forum for citizens personally affected by immigration-related issues.

Out of My Way

Every Wednesday throughout the summer, producer Gianofer Fields takes you to some of the most unique and hidden spots in the region. The series Out of My Way inspires listeners to hit the open road, and pay close attention to the fascinating spots along the way.

DJ Series—A Spinning Summer

Throughout the summer, a local DJ joins Eight Forty-Eight in studio to spin live music during the show. On Fridays, you can hear their mixes between segments before they sit down with Steve Edwards to discuss their craft. The guest DJs come from all over Chicago’s music scene and bring years of experience and an eclectic range of sounds and styles.

Indie Label Series—The People Behind Chicago’s Music

Eight Forty-Eight and music producer Joe DeCeault turn their attention to some of Chicago’s many great independent record labels.  The series explores the different roads that local labels have taken toward one unified goal—supporting great music.  From veterans on the scene to upstarts, label owners explain what makes Chicago such a fertile place for artists across all genres, and why the city is so revered for both its artists and its labels.
