General Event Information
This American Life with Alex Blumberg
Sunday, June 14, 2009 @ 7:00 p.m., doors at 6:00 p.m.

Produced by Chicago Public Radio and distributed by Public Radio International, This American Life (TAL) debuted in 1995 and is now heard by 1.7 million weekly listeners on more than 500 public radio stations nationwide. The radio show is one of the most popular podcasts in America, winning many of the nation’s major broadcasting awards including the Peabody, and the television show – which debuted just last year on Showtime – was nominated in 2008 for five Emmys, with the show's nomination for best nonfiction series a first for the network.

Turning off the microphones (at least to a broadcast audience), join producer/reporter Alex Blumberg as he explains the economy, TAL-style.

Alex Blumberg is a former TAL administrator who, prior to rejoining us in the summer of 1999, worked as a freelance radio reporter contributing to TAL, the Savvy Traveller and Chicago Public Radio. He teaches at Columbia University in NYC and serves as the Executive Producer of the TAL television show as well as being a Producer for the radio show.  In May 2008 Blumberg teamed up with Adam Davidson to produce the TAL episode "Giant Pool of Money" about the bursting mortgage bubble which went on to win awards throughout the radio industry.  They continue to collaborate on Planet Money, a blog/podcast spin-off of “Giant Pool,” and on reporting about the financial crisis. Their fourth full episode of TAL, "The Watchmen," will broadcast Friday, June 5.

Join us for what guaranteed to be the most entertaining, multimedia hour on global structured finance you'll ever see. Using a potent multimedia mix of video, still graphics and audio, Blumberg does for the global financial system what Al Gore did for Global Warming. Except funnier. And possibly more depressing. But funnier too.

Afterward, join us for an after-party over at Hi-Tops (2462 N. Lincoln Avenue) – hosted by Goose Island's Matilda and 312 – with music, food, and drink specials. As the 2008-2009 season of Chicago Public Radio Presents... comes to a close, the entire evening will be not-to-miss!
