Great piece today...very inspired. I think economic literacy for young people, particularly in disadvantaged communities, is a great initiative. We have a program called the ReBuilding Exchange, that we launched in Feb 09 which diverts building materials from landfills and makes them available to the community for renovation and reconstruction. We're trying to engage kids as much as possible in this initiative to get thinking about their environment and waste in a different way, taking pride in the architectural and material resources of their neighborhoods. Our website has more info www.rebuildingexchange.org

I loved this piece and so did my kids, 11 and 7. They insisted I share what we'd heard on our drive with their grandparents, whom we were driving over to meet! I wish the program every success!

I had the opportunity this Spring to go with a group of students to Malawi with buildOn. What an amazing time. Good luck in Mali!
