Lipinski: Constituents Support Jobs Priority

Rep. Dan Lipinski (D-Chicago) backs tougher border enforcement and opposes ‘amnesty.’

A Chicago Congressman is countering a potential challenger’s claim that the district’s immigrants are getting poor representation.

Dan Lipinski represents parts of Chicago’s Southwest Side and some nearby suburbs with large numbers of Latin Americans, Middle Easterners and Asians.

Jorge Mújica is planning to challenge Lipinski in February’s Democratic primary. Mújica says the congressman is letting down the immigrants by backing tougher border enforcement and opposing proposals to legalize undocumented workers.

But Lipinski’s campaign spokesman, Michael McLaughlin, says the congressman represents all his constituents. McLaughlin says their top concern is jobs and that Lipinski has delivered them, especially in the transportation sector.

Lipinski’s strongest challenger in last year’s primary—Cook County prosecutor Mark Pera—also made immigration an issue.

The filing date for next year’s primary is November 2.
