Parkinson's Patients Cut a Rug

WBEZ/Gabriel Spitzer
Parkinson’s Disease often begins with a little tremor in the hand or foot. Movements slow down, muscles start to stiffen, and eventually, Parkinson’s can rob people of control over their bodies. So it may be curious to see Parkinson’s patients in a studio at one of Chicago’s premiere dance companies. But some say the weekly class has helped them regain abilities they thought were lost to the disease. It’s a collaboration between Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and Rush University Medical Center, and it could lead to important research.

I have Parkinson's and find that light aerobics and walking are beneficial. I think the dance class is probably a very good activity for both the body and the mind.

I am 48 and I have YOPD. I think that this dance class is great. I wish I could find a class near by to attend.
