Jesse Jackson Jr. with Gov. Rod Blagojevich at the IL delegation breakfast this morning. (WBEZ/Justin Kaufmann)

For the first time in American history, an African American is the presidential nominee for a major political party. By acclamation, and in a kind of triple play from New Mexico to Illinois to New York State, Hillary Clinton put an end to yesterday’s roll call and proposed the party nominate Sen. Barak Obama to be the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee. But leave it to those upstart Illinois delegates to steal the thunder, Jesse Jackson Jr. had his home-state delegation hugging. Web editor Justin Kaufmann and reporter Robert Wildeboer check in from Denver.
