Chip Mitchell

Reporter, West Side Bureau

From our bureau in Chicago’s Humboldt Park neighborhood, Chip explores news and issues from across the city’s West Side. He also covers our immigration beat.

Before joining the Chicago Public Radio staff in 2006, Chip reported in radio and print from a number of Midwest cities and Latin American countries, most recently from a base in Bogotá, Colombia. He has reported for PRI’s The World, NPR, the BBC, the Dallas Morning News, The Christian Science Monitor, the Committee to Protect Journalists and many others. The Milwaukee Press Club named a story he authored for Madison’s Isthmus as the year’s best investigative report in Wisconsin.

Born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota, Chip earned a B.A. in History from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He lives in Humboldt Park with his partner, Alba Cárdenas.
